SJSM GIRLS: Rough’n up the competition

SJSM has its first official sports team – SJSM’s Girls Flag Rugby Team!

In an effort to extend the awareness to the Caribbean, the International World Rubgy Cup (North America) launched a campaign to get schools in St. Vincent involved. Team Manager, Samantha Scoville, was tasked by St. Vincent National Team Coach, Mike Jackson, to reach out to the ladies of our school that would have an interested in putting a team together. This team would then play Trinity in an exhibition match before the St. Vincent vs. Jamaica World Cup Qualifier this past Saturday.

The team’s players included Ndidi (Jessica) Udeogu (Captain), Stephanie Yala, Jeannie Sierra, Dieuvaldine Lamartiniere, Victorine Etchu and Samantha Scoville. Kirk Stewart filled the, now permanent position of Coach, along with Antonio DiCarlo, as they supported Coach Jackson with getting the girls ready for the big game. The hard work paid – the SJSM Girls took the 3 – 2 win versus Trinity University.

The team is ready to expand the cast (14+ girls) and we are looking for more girls to take on the developing Trinity team. We hope to have a ‘best of 3’ series in the next couple of months and we would like to prime those interested to listen out for try out dates.

Stay tuned for more information on the team and the games!

Great job Ladies!
